Your first class

Nobody walks in
knowing how.

Everyone in that room started exactly where you are. Here is what the hour actually looks like.

01

Warm up

Gentle mobility to wake up the hips, ribcage and shoulders — the three places belly dance lives. No pressure, no mirrors to hide from.

02

Technique & culture

Drills broken down slowly, with the context behind them: where the movement comes from, what the rhythm is called, why it matters.

03

Put it together

A short combination or choreography to music, so you leave having actually danced — and usually still smiling about it.

What to wear: something comfortable you can move in — leggings and a fitted top are perfect. Bare feet or soft dance shoes. A coin hip scarf makes every movement visible and is great fun, but it is absolutely not required for your first class.

Good to know

Questions,
answered.

None at all. The beginners class on Thursday assumes you have never done this before, and the Monday open level class is structured so that first-timers and regulars can work side by side. Lizzie breaks everything down slowly and there is no expectation that you pick it up immediately.

Leggings or comfortable trousers and a fitted top so you can see your own movement. Bare feet or soft dance shoes. Bring water. A coin hip scarf is lovely to dance in but is not needed to start — come and try the class first.

Yes. World Dance runs on Wednesdays at 5pm at Fox Dance Academy in Nantwich — a children’s class exploring dance styles from around the world. Everything else on the timetable is an adult class.

Through the venue. The Monday class at Sattvic Studio in Market Drayton books via Bookwhen; the Nantwich classes book through the Fox Dance Academy timetable. Both are linked from the timetable above.

Yes. The Saturday 10:30am session runs live on Zoom and people join from wherever they are. Email Lizzie and she will send you the link and payment details.

Almost everybody arrives alone the first time, and the room is genuinely welcoming — that is the thing students mention most often. Message Lizzie beforehand and she will look out for you on the night.

Come and dance

Your first class
is the hardest.

And it lasts about four minutes. After that you are just someone who belly dances on a Thursday.
